Scammell resigns from GMTV

LONDON - GMTV managing editor John Scammell has resigned from the breakfast TV station with immediate effect.

Bosses at GMTV had banned Scammell, 46, from attending any company Christmas lunches after he was found slumped over his desk following a lunch in December.

The father-of-two subsequently handed in his notice shortly before Christmas and has not returned to the office since. He did not work out his notice period.

GMTV declined to comment further on Scammell's departure, however a spokesman confirmed that Scammell was not sacked. It is thought that the executive will take a break from breakfast TV before seeking new employment.

GMTV has not yet decided how or when Scammell will be replaced.
