Sarah Warby

Marketing director

Sainsbury’s

After three years in the top marketing role at Sainsbury’s, the ebullient Warby continues to impress. Universal recognition came in the form of Sainsbury’s scooping The Marketing Society Brand of the Year 2013. Not bad for a company operating in one of business’ toughest sectors. Described by peers as an "inspirational leader" who "inspires fierce loyalty from her agencies and teams", Warby is known for getting stuck in. In her previous role on Foster’s, she would go on nights out with young people, for research purposes, while at Sainsbury’s she regularly visits stores. Marketing highlights have been Sainsbury’s ‘Summer sorted’ campaign, which featured real people detailing ideas they had come up with to keep their children fed and entertained during the long school holidays. Of the big four supermarkets, Sainsbury’s, arguably, has responded most significantly to the threat of the German discounters by bringing discountstore brand Netto back to the UK.
