Sales continue to fall among top 10 regional papers

LONDON - The Audit Bureau of Circulations today published ABC figures for UK regional newspapers for July to December 2006.

The average circulation of the top 10 dailies, covering Saturday to Monday sales, all fell year-on-year.

The top 10 are:

1.Express & Star (West Midlands) All Editions (Mon-Sat) 142, 433 (Down 5.4% year-on-year)

2. Liverpool Echo (Mon-Sat) 110, 804 (Down 6.1% year-on-year)

3. Manchester Evening News (Mon-Sat) 94,018 (Down 26.8% year-on-year)

4. Belfast Telegraph (Mon-Sat): 87,782 (Down 6.4% year-on-year)

5. Aberdeen Press & Journal: 82,325 (Down 2.7% year-on-year)

6. Glasgow Evening Times (Mon-Sat): 79,365 (Down 2.5% year-on-year)

7. Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Evening Chronicle (Mon-Sat) 77,056 (Down 7.6% year-on-year)

8. Dundee Courier & Advertiser (Mon-Sat): 75,435 (Down 3.3% year-on-year)

9. Shropshire Star (Mon-Sat) 73,941 (Down 4.5% year-on-year)

10. Leicester Mercury (Mon-Sat) 73,634 (Down 5.7% year-on-year)
