Burr’s internal move follows a wider restructure at the retailer, which included the promotion of Mike Coupe, trading director, to the role of group commercial director.
However, Sainsbury’s would not disclose any further details.
Burr previously controlled the marketing strings at Sainsbury’s as part of her wider customer-director role, a position created for her by chief executive Justin King.
Her responsibilities also included customer service and internal communications.
Burr's new role of customer service and colleague director will have the added responsibility of human resources. However, responsibility for marketing will be shifted out of her remit.
Burr was rated number two in Marketing magazine’s 'Power 100' list and has been behind key brand initiatives, including the strapline ‘Try something new today’ as well as ‘Feed your family for a fiver’ activity.
She joined Sainsbury’s in 2005 and as customer director, she managed a team of 350 and a budget of more than £250m a year.
