Saatchi & Saatchi has been appointed to handle the £15
million international Greek Tourism account in the run-up to the
Olympics in 2004.
Leo Burnett, Olympic DDB, BBDO, Project and ATP all pitched for the
business.
The account had previously been handled by a consortium of
companies.
A spokesman for the Greek National Tourist Office said: "For the first
time in the history of the GNTO, the decision for the advertising
assignment was unanimous."
Adel Saatchi & Saatchi in Athens will handle the strategy and account
management while in London Team Saatchi will be developing the creative
work. Team Saatchi has already created a press, poster and TV campaign,
selected for its ability to appeal to all tourists.
Michael Parker, the chief executive of Team Saatchi, said: "The big
difference about this project is the brief. Most tourist boards have a
statutory review every two or three years and the brief remains
virtually the same. However, this was aiming more towards the more
discerning traveller, also bearing in mind the forthcoming
Olympics."
Marina Papatsoni, from Adel Saatchi, added: "It was a great team effort.
We have collaborated with Team Saatchi before and our experience of
working together was a big advantage."
Parker added: "We are delighted to be working with the GNTO and to be
helping them to meet the very tough challenges now being faced by the
tourism industry, although the brief and the budget have remained the
same."
