Rugby League seeks global digital agency

Rugby League's governing body, the RFL, is hunting a media agency as it prepares to explore digital broadcast opportunities.

It is looking for a single agency to handle its broadcasting services and incorporate new media opportunities, including online, WAP, 3G and mobile.

The agency will be responsible for global rights sales, as well as negotiating new broadcast deals for the RFL and Engage Super League, including the prestigious Challenge Cup, which is broadcast live on BBC.

The brief requires agencies to demonstrate an ability to generate increased coverage of rugby league in more countries as part of the RFL's development goals.

Paul Kimberley, commercial director of the RFL, said: "Putting our media requirements out to tender will allow us to embrace all the new broadcast opportunities available and allow us to broadcast Rugby League to the widest possible audience and help the sport's growth.

"Key competitions such as the Challenge Cup receive huge TV audiences in the UK, but it's important that the successful agency is able to help us expand International coverage as well."

The tender document is being circulated to relevant organisations, including incumbent TWI.
