The First Class performance target set for Royal Mail is 93%, and its Second Class target is 98.5%, which in July to September Royal Mail hit 98.8%. In both categories, it has performed at or above target level for more than a year.
It also performed above target during the July-September quarter for Mailsort bulk mail services, Presstream for magazines and catalogue mail, and Postage Paid Impression services, Special Delivery and Standard Parcels.
Postal watchdog Postwatch said it will wait until the fully audited figures are available in November before commenting.
Adam Crozier, Royal Mail chief executive, said: "Postmen and women are providing customers with a world class performance. Improving quality of service remains Royal Mail's number one priority and we are determined to do even better."
However, it was not all good news for the mail operator this week. Its finance director Marisa Cassoni resigned after four years.
In addition, there are just two months to go before the postal market is opened up to full competition, on January 1.
