Royal Mail to launch email platform in bid to expand

Royal Mail is poised to launch into the digital arena with its own Royal Mail-branded email platform.

High volume email dispatch, tracking and analysis will be offered by Royal Mail in a partnership with the digital marketing company E-Relationship Marketing (e-rm).

A technical trial across 25 companies took place last year and Royal Mail is currently conducting a market trial with existing customers before rolling the service out to the full market later this year.

Royal Mail is training up a sales force to take the product out to the market and testing different pricing and service options.

The move is part of its strategy to expand its offering beyond direct mail but is sure to put Royal Mail in conflict with existing UK email providers. "A flock of household names are interested, said a source who wished to remain anonymous. "Royal Mail is in a strong position to sell its new email offering to existing mail customers."

Royal Mail will hope to cash in on the strength of the Royal Mail brand as well as the capability of e-rm's transmission and analysis software.
