The organisation is undergoing a £1.5m revamp of a former Edinburgh University European language school building due for completion in May. It will be transformed into three floors of event space, targeting private clients, corporates and conference organisers.
The new venue will join the Playfair Building, the Quincentenary Building and the King Khalid Building as the Royal College of Surgeons’ roster of spaces to hire. Marketing Edinburgh has announced it will also add the college to its events repertoire.
Scott Mitchell, the organisation’s commercial director, said that both the exterior and interior of the language school will be enhanced for the relaunch. He said: "When it opens it will help cement our growing reputation, built up over the past eight years, for superb venues for the people of Edinburgh, for Scottish businesses and for overseas visitors. It will really help put us on the map with major event booking specialists, both nationally and internationally.
"That’s great news for the local restaurants, shops and businesses on the Southside, as many of our guests will be staying in our hotel. We are understandably excited at the prospect of opening in May."
