The switch comes after the Havas-owned creative agency struggled last year in the wake of losing its biggest clients, Bacardi and Diet Coke, in 2015.
Bardales is part of the BETC London management team alongside managing director Andrew Kay and chief strategy officer Russell Davies.
The shop has not replaced Andrew Stirk, the former chief executive, who left to join Facebook last year. BETC has also hired Nathanael Potter as its first creative director in three years.
He has spent six months freelancing on the agency’s Rimmel account and has more than 20 years’ experience, including stints at MRM Meteorite and The Sunday Times.
