Rolling Stone to launch French edition

PARIS - A week after US rock magazine Rolling Stone was given an FHM-style relaunch to revive its fortunes, the company has announced that it is to launch its first overseas edition with the debut of a French edition in October.

Rolling Stone publisher Wenner Media appointed British editor Ed Needham, formerly of FHM US, in June to give the magazine an overhaul. His first effort hit the newsstands last week to mixed reviews.

The relaunched Rolling Stone features more reviews, a new design and more shorter pieces. The changes are a nod to Rolling Stone's US competitor Blender.

The French edition will be published under licence by Ixo Publishing, which already publishes a number of music titles in France.

The French edition will have an initial modest print run of 120,000 copies and is due to hit newsstands on October 3. The first French edition will run to 196 pages with a cover price of £3.10, which is the same price FHM retails for in the UK, and will include a 32-page English supplement.
