Rocket scoops Toshiba's £5m consolidated UK media

Toshiba has consolidated its £5 million UK media planning and buying account into Rocket, the PHD-owned agency.

Rocket, which previously handled planning and buying for the computer division of Toshiba, will now also take on the television and mobile phone duties, which were previously handled by the OMD-owned agency M2M.

The appointment follows a pitch process that saw Rocket beat MediaCom in the final stages.

It follows Toshiba's recent appointment of Grey London to handle its £25 million pan-European advertising account (±±¾©Èü³µpk10, 22 June).

It is understood that Toshiba is now looking at its wider £25 million pan-European planning and buying business and may appoint a network to handle a consolidated account. PHD is in pole position for the business following Rocket's appointment.

Toshiba commits the bulk of its spend to support its computer range. However, it is increasing spend on its television and DVD products. The manufacturer's high-definition DVD product is currently going head to head against Sony's own next-generation Blu-ray disc format.
