RNIB "Design for everyone" by The & Partnership London

RNIB made an accessible pregnancy test prototype which would allow women with sight loss to know their result privately.
The project, which has been two years in the making, addresses the fact that blind and partially sighted women can be denied the right to privacy about their bodies, because pregnancy tests rely on a visual result. The prototype features a large, tactile button that becomes raised when the result is positive. It uses the same technology as other pregnancy tests but changes the output from a digital screen to a mechanical button.
Ads illustrate the real-life implications of inaccessible design in various areas of life, with taglines such as: "Patti is having sex again". The charity and its agency, The & Partnership London, have also released the research and process behind the prototype to encourage designers to take up similar accessible ventures.
