RKCR/Y&R scoops February Anna with Land Rover ad

LONDON - Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R's Land Rover ad, featuring a topical link with the Six Nations rugby tournament, has won the top spot in the February Awards for National Newspaper Advertising.

The ad, by the creative team of Amber Casey and Dan Hubert of Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R, shows five rugby players holding up tackle pads in front of them to form the shape of a Land Rover. It carries the strapline: "Built to tackle anything."

Simon Learman, Anna judge and executive creative director of McCann Erickson, said: "Wonderful photography eloquently describes the meat of the idea. And I like how the line goes on to complement the image in a confident, understated and playful way.

"It is of course, supremely topical because of the Six Nations' competition. But I also detect the faint whiff of defiance in the face of [London mayor Ken] Livingstone's purge on the hyper-protective Chelsea Tractor."

Rainey Kelly topped a list of five ads nominated for February's award.

Wieden & Kennedy took three nominations with its ads for Honda, while the other nomination went to Bartle Bogle Hegarty for its "bear and fish" ad for Vodafone.

Wieden & Kennedy already had one nomination this year, as another Honda ad was the January winner.

Learman said: "Honda has cornered the market with illustrative loveliness. I rather like those playful quizzes."

The Annas offer a £25,000 prize for the creative team behind the ad judged the best of the year.
