operates almost 3,000 highly rated blogs and syndicates them to news media organisations such as The Washington Post, the Gannett newspaper chain, the San Francisco Chronicle and the Austin American-Statesman in the US.
In the UK, Pluck also links bloggers to and websites among others. Pluck will use the Reuters cash to expand deeper into Europe and Asia.
The $7m investment is for an undisclosed stake in Pluck. As part of the deal, Reuters will offer Pluck's BlogBurst blog service to thousands of media customers worldwide. Pluck aims to expand its services worldwide following the deal, starting with Europe and Asia.
Chris Ahearn, president of Reuters Media division, said: "What this deal provides is an edited and moderated view of what is happening in the world of blogs. Our general view is that news is news." Whether generated by professional journalists or by blog commentators "we don't take the view there is only one view you can trust and that we have it".
The service covers subjects such as news, politics, sports, health, fitness technology, travel, food and entertainment.
In addition, Pluck provides a set of web services, called SiteLife, for media publishers and broadcasters to add interactive features to their own sites.
SiteLife allows customers to put reader contributions alongside stories written by the publisher's own journalists.
This is not the first alliance Reuters has announced recently in social media. The news company has also set up a partnership with international blog commentary network Global Voices.
Ten years ago, Reuters began providing and other internet media sites with free news.
