Retail News: Waitrose in easy trademark row

Waitrose could face a trademark battle with Stelios Haji-Ioannou's easyGroup following the launch of its 'easy'-branded ready-to-cook range.

Although the supermarket said it had examined its use of the name prior to launch, an easyGroup spokesman told Marketing that the company would be investigating possible trademark infringement.

Easy is renowned for threatening legal action against companies registering products and services under the easy name.

'Waitrose easy ...' products carry the strapline 'Convenience without compromise' and will encourage customers to get more involved with the cooking than they do with traditional ready meals.

The range will go on-shelf this month.
