Retail choice: Zara Home, Regent Street

Alongside the Tom Dixon-designed Habitat outlet stands the first stand-alone Zara Home store.

Worthy of its central Regent Street location, and a totally different kettle of fish to its neighbour, Zara Home contrasts the architectural grandeur of the building with its own signature contemporary shop-fit.

Entering the store, which is on a corner, one is greeted by a riot of colour and texture creating an ordered, but bazaar-like, atmosphere and bringing the latest trends to the high street.

The store comprises three floors of soft furnishings, with the odd bit of furniture thrown in. The ground floor is densely and meticulously merchandised around the perimeter walls, with lavish visual merchandising on the centre tables. On the right is a large and dramatic cash-and-wrap counter featuring sophisticated assistants packing with care.

The first floor offers colour themes for bedroom and dining room, with the latter area featuring lots of glass, allowing plenty of light through and giving a sense of more space than there actually is. The basement, meanwhile, houses a brightly coloured children's area and Zara 'basics'.

Zara Home is a confident extension of its fashion offering, encouraging customers to mix affordable design with designer products. It is a welcome addition to Regent Street and, judging by the number of customers leaving laden down with bags, a profitable one.
