While die-hard curry fans are looked after, a daily changing menu supports the kebab ethos with a large selection that includes dishes from across the tiger belt, including tawa grilled halibut, steak flavoured with mint and coriander and kebabs.
The friendly and efficient staff know the menu and are happy to make recommendations and explain dishes from the extensive menu that prides itself on using only the freshest ingredients.
The same team that is behind Mela and Chowki restaurants in the West End took over Soho Spice last year and has only just reopened the newly made-over venue. The restaurant is well laid out and centred around the show kitchen – but not obtrusively so, making it a suitable venue for entertaining clients.
Washed down with some rather potent cocktails, for starters we opted for the shared platter that included supremes of chicken – griddle fried chicken treated with herbs, spices and nuts; MahiMotia -marinated tilapia fillet, fried with sago; and lamb-mince pattie kebab – stuffed with minty yoghurt.
For mains, I went for the marinated lamb chops and my companion went for the prawn curry. Both dishes, without being spectacular, were enjoyable and ample in size.
The venue also includes the Spice Lounge, a downstairs cocktail bar which offers an extensive range of speciality cocktails with an Indian twist and, if you're up for it after all those kebabs, a dance floor.
Situated on Wardour Street, and with a large choice of nibbles and meals, Soho Spice is an ideal lunch, or evening, venue offering something for most palates.
