Renault ordered to pull 'eco' ads

Renault has been told to withdraw a print ad for its Twingo Dynamique after the ASA ruled that it exaggerated the model's environmental credentials.

The national press ads based the model's eco-positioning on its relatively low CO2 emissions of 135g/km, using the phrase 'economical ecological'.

Renault uses the 'ecological' and Eco2 logos for vehicles that pass certain criteria, including emissions of less than 140g/km.

The car manufacturer has been forced to withdraw the ads and give assurances it will not use them again. It has also been told to seek guidance on copy for its future advertising and explain the basis of its eco-credentials more clearly.
