Reed quits Springer & Jacoby London after three years

LONDON - Crispin Reed, the group managing director of Springer & Jacoby London, has left the agency after nearly three years in what insiders say is the first of many changes over the coming weeks.

His departure throws Robin Weeks' position as the agency's creative director into question. Weeks was hired by Reed in March last year.

Reed's departure is said to have surprised staff at the agency. He joined S&J in June 2000 from CDP, where he was the board director for Honda.

Before that he worked at Leo Burnett on the Mercedes-Benz account. It is understood that a replacement for Reed has not been considered, and that he does not have a job to go to. Reed and Weeks were unavailable for comment.

Paul Slaymaker, the managing director of Reef advertising, which shares the S&J offices, is understood to be caretaking the London office. Slaymaker was also out of the country and unavailable for comment.

The agency has had a quiet new-business record in recent months, with the only known recent wins being Karma Kars and a Burberry project. The agency's new-business director, Michelle Saynor, is on extended leave until May.

In September 2000, Interpublic acquired a 35.5 per cent stake in S&J.

One of the flagship accounts at S&J's Hamburg office is the European Mercedes-Benz business.
