Reebok to bring out world's first foldable trainers

Reebok is to capitalise on the nomadic lifestyles of urban consumers with the launch of what is claimed to be the world's first easily packable trainer.

Travel Trainer, developed by Reebok's Japanese operation, is being imported to the UK as a limited edition product. It is available in five colours, and has been designed using advanced fabric technology which allows the trainer to be folded, rolled and packed away.

The Travel Trainers will be available in stores such as Foot Locker and Size?, reflecting the selective distribution strategy employed by Reebok in its fightback against brands such as Adidas and Nike, which dominate sportswear.

Separately, Reebok Europe's retail partner Tony Read Consulting has appointed branding consultancy Marketplace to work on its retail brand positioning.

The project, which will kick off with a store in France next April, is designed to provide a more effective experience of the Reebok brand by explaining technological innovations and giving sub-brands a more distinctive presence.

The initiative will be rolled out to the UK, where Reebok has both standalone stores and a significant presence in independent shops.
