Rebekah Wade promoted to NI chief executive

LONDON - Rebekah Wade, editor of the Sun, has been appointed to the role of chief executive of News International, with marketers Jeremy Schwartz and Katie Vanneck reporting into her.

Wade will take up the position in September and report directly to James Murdoch, News Corporation chairman and chief executive Europe and Asia.

The whole of the News International board will report into Wade, including Chief marketing officer Schwartz and managing director of customer publishing, Vanneck. The four national editors will also report to Wade.

She will be in operational charge of News International's four national titles - the Sun, News of the World, the Times, the Sunday Times - as well as freesheet the London Paper.

Her replacement as editor of the Sun will be announced in the summer.
