Ray-Ban owner reviews account

Ray-Ban manufacturer Luxottica is reviewing its £10m-15m global creative account as it prepares to boost its promotional activity.

McCann-Erickson Italia currently handles the business and last year created a TV, print and poster campaign urging people to change their view of the world.

Earlier this year, the designer-sunglasses company appointed Carat to its EUR40m (£28m) media planning and buying account following a pitch involving Starcom, MindShare and OMD.

Ray-Ban has sponsored the Honda Racing Formula One team since 2004. Its logo appears on the cars and on the helmets of drivers Jensen Button and Rubens Barrichello.

Luxottica owns the Persol, Revo and Vogue sunglasses brands and the Sunglass Hut retail chain. It also produces sunglasses under licence for Chanel, Donna Karan and Versace.

Last month, Luxottica signed a $1.75bn (£1bn) ten-year contract to design and produce prescription frames and sunglasses under the Polo Ralph Lauren brand.

The company, which distributes its products in 120 countries has also started producing Burberry frames and sunglasses this year after it signed a ten-year deal with the brand in October.

Luxottica recorded a 34% increase in sales to EUR4.4bn last year.
