Raworth to take over from Ford as presenter of BBC's One O'Clock News

LONDON - Sophie Raworth is to take over from Anna Ford as the presenter of BBC's 'One O'Clock News', leaving Natasha Kaplinsky to present the 'Six O'Clock News' bulletin.

Kaplinsky, famous for her appearance on 'Strictly Come Dancing', has been presenting the 'Six O'Clock News' with George Alagiah on BBC One while Raworth is on maternity leave, but with Raworth's move to daytime she looks set to remain in the role.

Raworth, who has been with the BBC since 1992, is to take over in April after Ford retires, having spent 30 years as a television presenter.

Before moving to the 'Six O'Clock News' in 2003, Raworth worked on 'BBC Breakfast' with Jeremy Bowen. She has risen relatively quickly up the ladder at the corporation, having joined as a regional training scheme in 1992 before moving to become a reporter for the radio station BBC GMR in Manchester.

In April 1994, she moved to Brussels to become Europe producer for the regions, then in 1995 she moved to Leeds to BBC Look North, where she first worked as a news presenter. She took up her role on 'BBC Breakfast' in 1997.

The 'One O'Clock News' has an audience of up to 3m viewers a day, and takes an average of over 40% of the available audience.

Raworth said: "In news terms, the One O'Clock sits in the middle of an incredibly busy part of the day, but I'm really looking forward to the challenge."
