O'Hara is leaving to pursue a long-held ambition to go long-distance sailing in her 38-foot steel Sketch to Spain, Portugal and the Caribbean.
She leaves at a controversial time for the radio industry, which is looking into replacing its outdated diary-keeping system with electronic monitoring systems.
O'Hara said: "This is an appropriate time for a change. Rajar has completed the major tests into electronic measurement and keenly awaits the opportunity to start testing again on the next generation equipment. The Rajar contract is not out for tender at the present time and, therefore, my successor will have an opportunity to get their feet under the table before that process begins."
Rajar is coming under pressure from from TalkSPORT chief executive Kelvin MacKenzie, who is backing a rival system from Gfk Media, to switch to electronic testing.
The ratings body recently promised further investment of £500,000 into the testing of second-generation sets as soon as they become available.
O'Hara is a former marketing director of Talk Radio, head of marketing, research and consultancy at Independent Radio Sales and was director of Media Buying Services.
