Ginger Media Group’s chief executive David Campbell has left the
group suddenly and may not be replaced.
A statement from Ginger Media said that Campbell had decided to leave
the group to ’develop his career and pursue other interests’.
However, the company was unable to confirm whether he will be replaced
or whether he had a job to go to and refused to comment beyond the press
statement.
The departure is the first change in management at the group since it
was acquired by Scottish Media Group in March.
The pounds 225m deal saw Virgin Radio become part of SMG’s national
media division, run by Campbell, while Ginger’s TV production operation
merged with Scottish Television Enterprises.
A spokesman for SMG said it was too early to say whether Campbell will
be replaced. John Pearson, chief executive of Virgin Radio, will
continue to run the station.
Andrew Flanagan, chief executive of SMG, said: ’David is an accomplished
businessman and, having taken Ginger Media Group to the success it is
today, I understand his wish is to seek out a fresh challenge.’
Campbell joined the Virgin Group in 1986, having previously worked in
marketing at Pepsico in the US.
He became chief executive of Virgin Radio in 1993 and chief executive of
Ginger Media Group in 1997, when it took over Virgin Radio.
Campbell left on April 25 and was unavailable for comment.
