Radio 2 controller will walk if staff are 'scapegoated'

LONDON - Radio 2 and 6 Music controller Lesley Douglas has threatened to quit if any of her staff are sacked as a result of the Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand phone message affair, according to the Evening Standard.

The paper claimed that Douglas has told friends that she is ready to walk out on the BBC if any of her employees are "scapegoated".

"She is very loyal to her people," a senior source told the paper. "She has had issues with compliance before when Radio 6 Music was hit with a fakery scandal last year."

Earlier this afternoon, an emergency meeting of the BBC Trust's editorial standards committee involving its chairman Sir Michael Lyons and BBC director general Mark Thompson was concluded.

The governing body said it expects to make a ruling on the scandal public later today or tomorrow.
