Organiser Sports & Entertainment (SEL-UK) turned to Stratford after an application to stage the event at Kensington Gardens was turned down by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
Thirty of the world’s top riders will compete in a 3,000-capacity grandstand in the International Quarter of the park. There will also be corporate hospitality marquees for 700 people, as well as a shopping village and a giant TV screen for the public. Tickets for the event, on June 6 - 9 2013, will be priced between £10 and £50.
SEL-UK is headed up by managing director Peter Phillips, the Queen’s grandson. He said: "It is a great opportunity to stage the competition at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, creating a true link to the legacy of the London Games. We have already received strong support from the local community and look forward to delivering an exciting sporting event for everyone."
Britain’s Olympic show jumping gold medallists will be competing at the event for record prize money of around €750,000.
London is a new addition to the Global Champions Tour circuit. Other new venues this year include Shanghai and Madrid as well as legs in Monaco, Doha, Cannes, Chantilly and Vienna.
