Viacom Outdoor claims that this move is in response to increased demand from advertisers to buy pan-European outdoor ad campaigns.
Punter, who will continue to be based at Viacom Outdoor's London office, will work alongside Viacom Outdoor's European marketing director, Mike Baker.
Tom Goddard, the chief executive of Viacom Outdoor, said: "Several factors have led us to this step. We've noticed more advertisers and brands buying Viacom Outdoor media in two-plus European countries. It makes sense for us to try to co-ordinate our European sales effort to accommodate this development."
Although Punter will combine his new international sales role with his existing UK management responsibilities, he is confident that he will be better placed to transfer ideas between markets and keep clients better informed of international opportunities.
Punter said: "The key thing is to bring clients fresh ideas and new media offerings."
