Mohamed Al Fayed’s Punch magazine has pulled its latest advertising

amid fears its tone would be seen as ’paparazzi’, following the deaths

of Diana, Princess of Wales and Dodi.

Neil Rodford, general manager at Liberty Publishing, which is owned by

Mohamed Al Fayed, is meeting Punch’s advertising agency Leagas Delaney

to discuss changes in the copy.

’We felt that it could be deemed as paparazzi in its style and are

seeking advice from our agency.’

Bruce Haines, chief executive officer of Leagas Delaney, said the

campaign was designed to promote Punch, with one execution which was

deemed unsuitable.

The campaign will be postponed for a week. It had been scheduled to

support Punch’s new look and its switch from a weekly to a fortnightly

publication on September 11.
