Pukka Pies revamps for mainstream appeal

Pukka Pies is relaunching its classic takeaway pie brand as part of its attempt to become more mainstream.

The move come as the brand secures its first listing in a number of multiples, including Sainsbury's and the Co-op, and prepares to trial variants in stores across the Midlands.

Steak & Kidney, Chicken & Mushroom and Minced Beef & Onion pies will be sold in individual cartons, created by Turner Duckworth.

The relaunch marks the latest attempt to take the brand into the mass market. The Leicester company launched a campaign to expand the pies' popularity beyond the Midlands last year.

Peter Mayes, Pukka Pies' marketing and business development controller, said research had shown the brand needed to be available via 'broader retail channels'.

Pukka Pies has a long association with football. The pies feature on signage at England matches as well as at 30 Football League and Premiership grounds.
