Publicis threatened in Wyeth Consumer Healthcare rethink

Wyeth Consumer Healthcare, which makes the Anadin painkiller brand, is reviewing the creative assignment on its £6 million account. The move threatens Publicis' seven-year tenure of the business.

Publicis has been invited to repitch for the task of promoting the Wyeth range, which also includes Centrum, BiSoDol, Chapstick and Preparation H.

Wyeth is talking to ten agencies about the business before shortlisting the five who will compete for it. A decision is expected in May.

The review is thought to have been precipitated by the arrival late last year of a new managing director, John Smith.

Previously the head of the Wyeth operations in Spain, Portugal, South Africa and Russia, Smith replaced the retiring David Beauchamp.

The AAR is overseeing the review being conducted by Mark Cooper, the company's UK marketing director.

Cooper handled last year's pitch, which resulted in the company's media planning and buying account being consolidated within ZenithOptimedia.

Media is not included in the current review.

Publicis has handled all the Wyeth brands since September 1999.
