The agency scooped the business after a final pitch against CHI & Partners, the main incumbent on the account. McCann Erickson and VCCP were both knocked out at an earlier stage.

The company formerly split its business between a number of regional agencies, which produced quick-turnaround creative, mainly for the local press, and CHI, which was responsible for strategy and brand advertising.

Publicis will now handle the entire account as Barratt Developments attempts to improve efficiency and effectiveness in its marketing strategy.

The company's brands also include David Wilson Homes, Ward Homes, Wilson Bowden Developments and Oakleaf.

Nigel Jones, the chairman and chief executive of the Publicis UK group, said: "Barratt was seeking more effective communications while at the same time looking for ways to make its communications more efficient."

The present review does not affect MediaVest Manchester, which handles the media account for Barratt.
