Barraclough co-founded Barraclough Hall Woolston Gray in 1991. The agency was renamed BHWG Proximity in 2000. It became Proximity London, part of BBDO's Proximity network, in 2001 following its merger with Clarke Hooper and Traffic.
Barraclough would not reveal his future plans, but said: "I am currently exploring a number of options both inside and outside the Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO Group."
He added: "I am immensely proud of the agency we have built and of the team at Proximity London. I am leaving at the right time, with the agency's star very much in the ascendancy."
The move follows a mixed year for Proximity London. Although its post-merger business performance was disappointing, the agency had a strong year creatively.
While Barraclough has been contributing creative work over the past 12 months, he has taken a back seat in the running of the agency's creative department. This responsibility has instead fallen to Warren Moore and Caitlin Ryan, who will continue as the creative directors. It is unlikely that Barraclough will be replaced.
