Pret A Manger, the upmarket sandwich chain 33 per cent-owned by
McDonald's, is searching for an advertising agency to handle its
above-the-line account.
The company is using the AAR to put together a shortlist of small- to
medium-sized creative agencies. Pret A Manger did not advertise in 2001
and there is no incumbent agency.
Pret A Manger most recently rolled out advertising in 1998 through
WCRS.
It unveiled a 16-sheet poster campaign covering the London Underground,
aimed at recruiting staff.
Three executions showed Pret A Manger employees at work, accompanied by
a headline that twisted their job titles into the names of
astronomically priced kitchen utensils.
WCRS won the account in 1996 from Young & Rubicam.
Pret A Manager was founded by Sinclair Beecham and Julian Metcalfe.
After graduating in 1983, they began working in the city and were
disappointed by the low standard of lunches available. They set up a
sandwich shop using fresher produce.
Pret a Manger now employs more than 2,200 staff and has 115 shops across
UK city centres. The company is expanding in New York and will open
seven shops in Hong Kong.
