The move follows a re-launch of the title in January this year by its former owners, Quantum Business Media, which subsequently sold the title to Morgan as part of a disposal of its titles including Media Week and The Publican.
Speaking to staff yesterday during his first visit to the magazine’s Croydon offices, Morgan added that amongst other changes, the title was to put more emphasis on national newspaper stories.
It is widely rumoured that the paper will re-locate to Central London at some point during the summer, with speculation growing that Morgan is keen on shifting operations to Fleet Street, the spiritual home of the national press.
Morgan’s purchase of the paper – for up to an estimated £1m – has raised eyebrows among some in the industry, mainly due to his previous role and current high profile across the media.
Morgan reassured staff there would be no job losses as a result of the transfer from QBM, but some feel that working on the new-look Press Gazette may not be to everyone’s taste.
A major shift in the editorial direction of the paper to focus on national press issues is also likely to sadden a significant part of its readership – journalists on local newspapers.
Former-Mirror Group managing director Roger Eastoe has already been installed as commercial director for the new-look magazine.
