Pont promoted to new MPG role

Media Planning Group has promoted strategy director Simon Pont to become its first director of marketing in a bid to improve its new business performance.

Pont will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the agency's marketing plans, which include the imminent relaunch of the MPG website.

MPG has had mixed fortunes since losing the £54m Orange account last year. Last week, it lost the UK account for the French Tourist Office, while Pernod Ricard was reported to be reviewing its media planning and buying.

In September, Independent News & Media transferred its £3m account to Walker Media without a pitch.

However, MPG has this year won £18m of business including P&O Ferries, deaf charity the RNID, and the Price Runner online comparison site.
