Independent mobile phone retailer, The PocketPhone Shop, is
continuing its rapid expansion by opening its first London stores.
The chain is also due to announce a sponsorship deal with Crystal Palace
football club.
Three stores open in the capital at the end of this month, with further
openings planned for later in the year. This will take the total number
from 60 to more than 100, confirming the chain’s status as one of the
UK’s fastest growing independent mobile phone retailers.
TV star Ulrika Jonsson will open the stores, having supported the
company’s PR efforts for the past 18 months. Plans have still to be
finalised but may include the star handing out pounds 10,000 to
passers-by.
Discussions are also under way to feature Jonsson in the company’s first
TV advertising campaign at the end of September. The celebrity features
in all of the company’s customer communications, through catalogues,
point of sale and radio promotions.
The PocketPhone Shop was founded in 1994 with pounds 15,000. Its
turnover has grown from just under pounds 1m in its first year to an
anticipated turnover of pounds 53m at the end of this financial
year.
International expansion is also planned, with opportunities in Europe
being considered.
