Plymouth Gin hires Loz Simpson for <BR>US and UK relaunch campaign

LONDON - Plymouth Gin, the favourite tipple of wartime leaders Franklin D Roosevelt and Winston Churchill and which is produced in England's oldest working distillery, has tapped UK agency Loz Simpson Advertising to relaunch the product in the UK and US.

The £250,000 campaign will see the agency drive brand awareness for the product as it is relaunched to trade in the States and the UK.

The account was awarded to Loz Simpson following a competitive pitch, which is thought to have been against rival UK agency The Bridge and an unnamed US shop.

Plymouth Gin, owned by Coates & Co in Plymouth, has been distilled in the West Country for more than 200 years, and as well as being enjoyed by Roosevelt and Churchill it was also favoured by James Bond creator Ian Fleming and Alfred Hitchcock.

The site of the distillery dates back to 1431 and was once home to Dominican monks, as well as the Pilgrim Fathers on their last night before making their voyage on the Mayflower in 1620. For 200 years, the gin has been the official drink of the Royal Navy.
