LONDON (Brand Republic) - Sony鈥檚 PlayStation2 launched in the UK today, amid warnings that shortages of the new games console could create a black market.
The company鈥檚 policy of only releasing pre-ordered consoles means that the first batch is already accounted for and no more are expected until next year. Only 165,000 consoles were shipped to the UK.
The Consumers Association warned that the situation could lead to huge numbers of the consoles being sold in classified ads or on internet auctions.
The launch of the new console, known as the PS2, was delayed because of shortages in component supplies at Sony鈥檚 Tokyo factory.
