EyeToy Kinetic, which is being created through a partnership between Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and Nike's training experts, Motionworks, is intended to provide a personal fitness training schedule.
The interactive game, which is due to be released early next year, will feature a variety of fitness activities to be carried out via the EyeToy, which projects the exerciser's image onto the television screen.
Sony has already experienced phenomenal demand for the EyeToy, which has opened up the PlayStation's appeal beyond typical gamers. It has proved particularly popular among young women.
The launch of Kinetic marks the first attempt by the games industry to tackle the obesity crisis.
Albert Shum, Nike's director of global new business innovations, said video games 'may provide another long-term access point' for the brand to encourage young people to be more active.
Sony is currently gearing up for the launch of its PSP handheld games console in Europe early next year.
