Pizza Hut's January offer is as big as a lightning strike, says new TV ad

A ventriloquist's dummy, a woman struck by lightning, and a man inexplicably empowered with magnetism feature in a humorous new ad campaign for Pizza Hut Delivery.

A 30-second spot, created by Ogilvy & Mather London, launches this evening on E4 to kick off the restaurant chain’s "big deal" campaign for January, following last year’s "classic crust".

The ad, written by Will Marsden and art directed by Jordan Down at Ogilvy & Mather, sees a man delivering pizza to houses, only to be greeted by a range of bizarre characters.

A woman who appears to be struck by lightning answers the door and she is so impressed by Pizza Hut’s value for money that she says: "And I thought being struck by lightning was a big deal!"

Similar reactions are given by a ventriloquist’s dummy, who "thought going solo was a big deal", and a magnetic man, who thought being able to stick cutlery to his face was a big deal.

The spot was directed by Michael Clowater through Smuggler Films, while the media planning and buying was handled by Starcom Mediavest Group.

Following the TV ad will be social media, outdoor ads, and punchier radio spots in which a "big deal" is compared to a woman leaving her husband for his father, and a man framing his pal for a recent jewellery heist.
