Pizza Hut unveils PHQ value stores

Pizza Hut is to tap into the student fast-food market with the creation of a low-cost restaurant concept called PHQ.

The outlets are being trialled in three student centres: Brighton, Gosport and Newbury. According to insiders, should the trials prove successful, Pizza Hut will roll out the concept across the UK.

The PHQ formats offer a simplified, low-priced menu and while the restaurants offer seating, the emphasis is on the brand's takeaway and home-delivery services.

Pizza Hut currently targets students by offering all NUS cardholders a 20% discount from Sunday to Thursday.

Last week, it was forced to defend itself against accusations that its food contains unhealthily high levels of salt, following a survey by Consensus Action on Salt and Health. The chain said it was working to reduce salt levels.
