Pizza Hut to cut 15% off prices in 'VAT free weekend'

LONDON - Pizza Hut is putting its own take on the VAT cut by holding a 'VAT free weekend' where prices will be cut by 15% - the equivalent of the total removal of VAT.

The promotion will run across all Pizza Hut stores from this Saturday December 6 and Sunday December 7.

Prices of all menu items, including pizzas, pastas and salads, will be reduced by 15%.

The promotion follows last week's move by the Government to reduce VAT from 17.5% to 15%, effective from Monday.

Alasdair Murdoch, chief executive for Pizza Hut UK, said: "We believe that a 2.5% VAT reduction would be of limited benefit to our customers, which is why we have decided to launch a VAT free weekend on December 6.

"We are fully committed to passing on the VAT savings and will continue to explore the best ways to make a real difference to our customers."

The promotion will be advertised with a 'VAT Free Weekend' endframe on Pizza Hut ads from today until December 7.

Pizza Hut plans to pass on further VAT savings via a series of promotions running throughout 2009.
