Located on Bateman Street in Soho, London, the eatery was produced in collaboration with agency PrettyGreen. Chef Neil Rankin from Islington restaurant The Smokehouse designed the dishes, and will be preparing food for pre-booked and pop-in customers until 8pm tonight.
The pop-up has been decorated in the style of a 1950s-style diner, with movie posters and Americana memorabillia on the walls.
The menu is divided into five sections: breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner and vegetarian option. For morning diners, ham, egg, hot sauce, coffee and blood orange juice make up the breakfast inspired by TV series Dexter, while those with a sweeter tooth can pick up a Smartie’s cereal, the bowl of choice for The IT Crowd’s Moss, or a Danish pastry and coffee inspired by the opening scene of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Apology stew from Orange is the New Black or Freddy’s ribs from House of Cards are on offer for lunch, with an Arrested Development frozen banana and apple pie from American Pie are available as an afternoon snack. Dinner comes in the form of The Big Kahuna burger and $5 shake from Pulp Fiction, Los Pollos Hermanos chicken from Breaking Bad or Gwen’s cheese and mushroom omelette from Gavin and Stacey.
Richard Larcombe, director of brand and marketing at Virgin Media, said: "We’re really excited to open the TV Diner - food, film and TV go naturally hand in hand so this felt like the perfect way to demonstrate Virgin Media’s huge entertainment library. I can't wait to see how many people take on the mammoth Big Kahuna burger and $5 shake - it's not for the faint-hearted."
Rankin added: "Developing the menu for the TV Diner has been a brilliant challenge, I’m a huge film and box set fan myself so the opportunity to create dishes inspired by cult classics was just too good to pass up.
"I’m looking forward to welcoming telly and film buffs through the door and giving them the chance to taste their favourite characters’ food."
