Hosted by BBC Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw, the evening featured performances from all of the 2014 shortlisted artists including Bombay Bicycle Club, Jungle, FKA twigs, Damon Albarn, Polar Bear and Royal Blood. Each of the 12 acts performing on the night alternated between a stage at the front of the venue and the second stage at the back, which rose up from behind the first stage. Lipfriend Rodd provided production on the night.
Caterer Moving Venue served 700 guests a three-course dinner within The Main Space. The menu consisted of a starter of autumn vegetable and goat’s cheese tart, chilli and red onion marmalade, goat’s cheese and beetroot croquette, goat's curd and micro celery. The main was a pan-fried beef fillet, truffled Boulanger potatoes, sautéed wild mushrooms, sautéed spring greens, glazed baby carrots and Greenwich porter jus.
Guests were served a dessert of fleur de sel caramel chocolate fondant, raspberry bavarois, raspberry compote and dark chocolate sauce, as well as Musette coffee and Damian Allsop chocolates. A further 300 guests on The Circle Bar were served bowl food.
The evening culminated in the announcement of the overall winner of the 2014 Barclaycard Mercury Prize for Album of the Year. This year the judges crowned the experimental Scottish hip-hop trio Young Fathers as overall winner.
Jack Franklin, head of events at The Roundhouse, said: "It's a real honour to host the Barclaycard Mercury Prize Awards Show at the Roundhouse. The venue is perfect for live performances and awards dinners and this event combined the two together perfectly."
The event was broadcast live on the night on More4, and the entire awards show, including all live performances, will be broadcast in full tonight (31 October) on Channel 4.
