In pictures: Nokia goes back to 1920s at Colston Hall

Around 250 guests walked through the doors of Bristol's Colston Hall last night (3 December) for Nokia's 1920s-themed Christmas party.

Stepping through the venue’s old foyer and onto a red carpet, guests arrived at the venue’s 1920’s box office where each person was given a golden cracker and met by two raucous ‘cracker girls’ who told festive jokes to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

The Lantern, one of Colston Hall’s event venues, hosted a sparkling wine and canapé reception. Art Deco furnishings were illuminated through lighting provided by Bristol-based Utopium.

The party then moved into the venue’s main hall for the pre-dinner entertainment, which had been transformed into a smaller and more intimate space using star cloth and drapes from the celling. Guests took their seats and enjoyed a roller disco display, swing dancing and hula hooping.

Guests dined in The Lantern where cabaret tables with tiffany lamps had been set up throughout the room and a live jazz duo played on stage. Big Event Catering were tasked to create a selection of bowl food for guests on the night.

The menu included sweet and sour chicken with savoury rice; beef bourguignon with garlic mash; lamb dhansak with pilau rice, mango chutney and mini naan breads; a vegetable tagine with couscous; vegetable chilli with rice, sour cream and tortillas; and a lemon posset with butter shortbread for dessert.

Naomi Easy, sales and conference manager at Colston Hall, said: "We are so pleased that Nokia chose Colston Hall to host its Christmas party, the venue’s multifunctional spaces offer a unique mix of heritage and the best in contemporary architecture that worked perfectly for the night’s events.

Suzanne Ducat, community relations and events manager at Nokia, added: "We were very excited to host our Christmas party in Colston Hall, not only is it an iconic venue in Bristol but we thought its heritage lent itself to an Art Deco theme. The venue’s live music heritage fitted the Nokia brand perfectly, with its involvement in sponsoring many of today’s live music events."
