In pictures: MTV launches art trail in Glasgow

MTV has partnered with the Glasgow Marketing Bureau and The Glasgow School of Art to create an interactive treasure hunt throughout the city for the 2014 MTV European Music Awards (EMA).

Artists from the school have created six, eight-foot-tall MTV logos all with different designs celebrating Glasgow’s love for new music and art. The logos have been decorated in a range of materials, including multi-coloured plasticine and neon orange fur.

The installations, which were unveiled yesterday (4 November), will be positioned around the city’s best-known locations including Buchanan Galleries, Merchant Square and The Garage Nightclub.

Finders of a statue will be in with a chance of winning a pair of VIP tickets to the EMAs by uploading a selfie with the logo on Instagram, including the hashtag #IWantEMAtix, with more pictures equating to more chances of winning.

Councillor Gordon Matheson, leader of Glasgow City Council and chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, said: "The MTV EMAs will showcase Glasgow to a global audience of more than half a billion households – this is one of the world’s greatest music events and it’s the hottest ticket in town.

"Glasgow School of Art’s reputation as a centre for creative excellence is world renowned and the students’ work unveiled today strongly reinforces those credentials. The statues will really help to build excitement ahead of the show and I’m sure hundreds of music fans will be eagerly hunting for them across the city in the coming days."

Paul Bush, chief operating officer for Event Scotland, added:"Scotland is the perfect stage for events and there can be no mistaking that MTV is in town this week, with these spectacular statues contributing to the buzz around the country ahead of the EMA. The show will deliver significant economic impacts for Scotland and this project will further enhance the global reach of the event.

"Glasgow embodies Scotland’s creative and cultural industries and this fantastic partnership with the Glasgow School of Art will celebrate one of Scotland’s most iconic creative hubs alongside the world’s biggest youth entertainment brand."

The EMAs will be held this Sunday (9 November) at The SSE Hydro, Glasgow.
