In pictures: Macmillan's Bake the Nation event

In celebration of the millions of people around the UK who make the World's Biggest Coffee Morning a record breaking fundraising event, charity Macmillan Cancer Support built the UK skyline from biscuits.

Its Bake the Nation event featured a huge biscuit landscape displayed in the window of the Koppel Project in Baker Street, London yesterday (7 September), as a countdown to this year’s World's Biggest Coffee Morning, which takes place on 30 September.

The skyline landmarks, which included The Shard, Old Trafford and Edinburgh Castle, were chosen to give thanks to the millions of people that helped raise £27.6 million during last year’s event alone. The mammoth structure, spanning more than 80 square foot was made up of 25,000 biscuits. Macmillan also created cutting guides that enable budding bakers and coffee morning hosts to bake their own landmarks.

Claire Driscoll, national events marketing manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: "This year we really wanted to say thank you to everyone that helps make the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning so special. We’ve seen support for the event grow year on year for the past 25 years and now, through the power of biscuit, we’re seeing the whole nation come together. Coffee mornings take place from Penzance to Peterborough and Southampton to the Shetland Islands and this is what we want to represent with our huge biscuit sculpture."
