Innovision was approached by the Mayor of London’s Office just 48 hours before the event took place. The agency worked with multi-media studio LCI Productions and security company Showsec to stage the projection.
Hundreds of people gathered for the Je Suis Charlie rally in a display of unity following last week’s attacks on the offices of Parisian magazine Charlie Hebdo. The crowd cheered as The National Gallery was illuminated in stripes of red, white and blue.
Tower Bridge was also lit with the colours of the French flag, while the lights of the London Eye were dimmed in a mark of remembrance.
Claudia Douglass, Innovision’s founder and managing director, said: "The opportunity to show solidarity through our work and our networks is a rare one in our industry, so I was extremely proud to be asked to support the activities in London on Sunday night. The crowd gathering for the vigil in Trafalgar Square were visibly moved once the projections went live; it was a very emotional experience."
London Mayor Boris Johnson added: "Londoners have been appalled by the distressing scenes in France this week and it is important that we paid tribute to the victims of these attacks, as well as demonstrate our solidarity with the people of Paris. Lighting of the National Gallery was an incredible example of London’s response to the events in Paris.
"Joining together in opposition to the ideology of hatred and bigotry sends the clearest possible message – one of freedom, one of expression and one of resolution. Nous sommes Charlie."
